Rio Vista Recreation Center and Universal Athletic are sponsoring the 2011 Off the Couch Fit Club.

The kick-off event will be Saturday Jan. 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the center. This program provides a variety of fitness activities and nutrition information for kids ages 8 to 12 throughout the year. Participants can earn incentive prizes as they progress through the program.

The kick-off event will give kids the opportunity to learn about the program, meet instructors, sample classes, and meet sponsors. Lunch will be provided, and all participants will be entered in to win some great door prizes.

The event is free, but pre-registration is required. Kids may enroll in the program after the kick-off event but would have to attend a separate orientation.
